An incredibly rare and beautiful early 20th century Sozni hand embroidered Kashmiri woollen robe.
The British Museum have a robe very similar in their collection with the same buttons and cut. See here
Silk Sozni embroidery, backed onto super soft thick wool, this robe has been tailored to a very high standard. A very full panelled skirt & bodice and padded shoulders, this robe gives you the most flattering silhouette.
The buttons on this robe are the exact same as the robe the British Museum has. These buttons were often done for higher quality production items.
No photos do it justice but we tried our best to show its beauty as much as possible.
These robes were made to order for the European market in the 19th and 20th century and many remained in Kashmir due to never being collected. Kashmiri embroidery can vary hugely in quality, depending on what the prospective customer was willing to pay for it. That is still true to this day.
